Very few days separate us from the tenth edition of the festival. When we turn our heads back, different memories come to our minds. But, without a doubt, the winning films & documentaries have made their mark year after year.
Recently, we had the opportunity to talk with Mr.Thomas Krohn Dalen, the director of the best documentary of the 9th edition ‘ZENITH’.
As we know, documentary films have many challenges during production. When we asked Mr. Thomas about what he remembers as the biggest challenge in this realization, he said:
“We started the project before the pandemic, so of course things got really difficult when everything was locked down. Fortunately, I could spend more time planning exactly what I wanted the film to be, so that when we could start shooting, the process would be easier for us. As we did not have any funding for this project, we had to do everything whenever we would have time. We are also very happy that everyone involved with the project wanted to contribute with their creative expertise; whether it was music, sound design or VFX.:
Mr. Thomas, besides documentary films, is involved in various artistic projects. It is not always easy to determine which part of the work makes us feel better, but for Mr. Thomas seems that the answer is easy: ‘I’m mainly a cinematographer, so directing is not something I do very often. This whole project started with a visual idea that I wanted to shoot. Then after working on the story for some time, I got more attached to it – and then the lust for directing emerges. I would like to direct more, but I’m very happy to be behind the camera and create the visual language for a film.’
Mr.Thomas is currently working on a feature length documentary. When we asked him about his future plans, he said that he always demands more from himself and wants to challenge himself with an even bigger project: “I really like living and working in Bergen, so I don’t see myself moving to a different city. I do hope to eventually shoot a longer form project, such as a feature film or a TV-show very soon” he said.
We wish him much success in all the plans and projects he is currently working on.
