Slave of the dead

Director Lidi Toepoel (1983) was born in Tilburg and her first directed short ‘The last bridge operator’ (2015) was situated in her home town. ‘The last bridge operator’ was screened all over the world at international short film festivals. With her second short ‘Koeboy’ (2017) she won the ‘best 48 hour film’ from the jury and audience and the film was screened in several international short film festivals. Zoentjesdief (2021) is her first independent short and tells the story about her own grandmother from a child’s point of view. It was screened in competition at the famous Giffoni Film Festival and, Oscar qualifying Chicago’s International Childrens Film Festival. It has won several prices in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Wales and Mexico.
Slave of the dead (2024) is her first short documentary.
