In today’s rapidly evolving world, creative skills are not just valuable—they’re essential for personal growth, professional success, and adapting to a future shaped by innovation and technology. These skills empower individuals to think critically, solve problems creatively, and communicate effectively in a variety of fields, making them indispensable in nearly every aspect of life.
Knowing all this, the West Nordic International Film Festival (WENIFF) added WENIFF Lab to its lineup as a dedicated program to support and develop young creatives. This 1-week workshop is designed to give youth aged 16-20 hands-on experience in filmmaking, helping them build their skills and prepare for a future where creative and audiovisual abilities are more important than ever.
Why WENIFF Lab is Important for Youth?
WENIFF Lab is a unique opportunity for young people, to explore the world of filmmaking. In today’s fast-paced, media-driven world, knowing how to create and share stories visually is a valuable skill. WENIFF Lab empowers youth to express themselves creatively, work collaboratively, and gain confidence in their abilities. It’s not just about making films; it’s about learning skills that are useful in any career, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
How Does It Help Them?
The program gives participants hands-on experience in all aspects of filmmaking, including brainstorming, screenwriting, acting, editing, and motion effects. By the end of the week, they’ll have created a complete short film, which will be screened during WENIFF’s closing ceremony. The best film will win a prize of 5000 NOK (~€500) and an official medal. Beyond this, the films are also distributed to international short film festivals, giving young creatives global exposure and recognition.
How Will It Be Structured?
WENIFF Lab is a 1-week intensive workshop. It starts with networking and brainstorming sessions, where participants share ideas and build their projects. Over the week, they’ll work through every step of production, guided by mentors and professionals. The experience is collaborative and inclusive, welcoming both beginners and those with some experience in filmmaking.
WENIFF Lab is an integral part of WENIFF. It bridges the gap between emerging talents and established industry professionals, offering young creatives a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and gain recognition in an international setting.
